‘WHEN GIRLS TALK’ ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHT PROGRAM.

THE NEW GENERATION GIRLS AND WOMEN DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (NIGAWD) organized the program for girls’ ages 12-19 years old in Ekiti State as a means to engage them during the on-going workers' strike in the state.

Globally more than 16 million girls aged 15-19 years get pregnant every year (WHO).  In Ekiti State, teenage pregnancy is as high 25% of 13-18year-old girls having been pregnant before (Fayemi et al. survey of the problem of girl child in Ekiti state 2013).

To address this unfavorable social trend, thereby contributing to achieving one of NIGAWD’s missions of reducing teenage pregnancy in Ekiti State and Nigeria, programs such as adolescent reproductive health and life building skills which is targeted at girls’ 12-19 years old is considered needful.
Hence, NIGAWD organized a quarterly program for 25 adolescent girls 12-19years old tagged ‘When Girls Talk’.

The Executive Director of the organization celebrated her birthday this year with the adolescent girls of Ekiti State that Workers Strike in the State have deprived from schooling for 5 weeks now and of course, susceptible to risky behaviors that makes your guess as good as mine. The program was held on23-24th June 2016 at NIGAWD Office.

Ø  Girl Child Support Initiative from Ondo State provided free sanitary pads to the participants.
Ø  Lasting Impression, Ado-Ekiti provided cupcakes and the Book 'This Thing Called Sex' for all participants.
Ø  Cash Donations was gotten from:  Mrs. Damilola Abokede Obinna, Mr. and Mrs. Oyedele Damilare, Mr. Joshua Olu'Seun Esan, and Mrs. Ayedogbon Bukola towards this program
