BIBLE STUDY AT HOME
John 2:14-20 talks about the story of Jesus in Jerusalem chasing away the merchants that are buying and selling in the TEMPLE AREA.
Note that the bible says they were buying and selling in the temple area and not inside the temple. It is surprising that Jesus chased them away despite the fact that they were not inside the temple and I think He did that because being in the temple area is as good as being inside; for whatever gets close, can get in. I think this could be applied to our Christian lives; it is a pointer to telling us that whatever goes on around us can influence us no matter how long we have built the temple: our (Christian life) John 2:20.
It could also be pointed out from this passage that the rate at which we guild our temple is not dependent on how long we have been building it. The Jewish leaders accused Jesus of chasing people away and requested from Him, a sign to prove that he’s sent from God to do exactly what He’s doing but he replied by ordering them to tear apart the temple (the same one He was furious to see people buying and selling in the area) and He will rebuild in three (3) days.
It worthy of note that from their response they built the temple for forty-six years (46 years).
It worthy of note that from their response they built the temple for forty-six years (46 years).
This is to tell us that in spite of the efforts put into the building of the temple by these people and possibly their fathers, it did not hinder them from turning it into a market place.
Our bodies of no doubt, is representing the worship place, no wonder 1Corin. 6:13-end talks extensively on our body as the temple of God. This also means that when we allow ungodliness in our lives, we are simple destroying the worship place.
When I studied the chapter further, I discovered in verses 23-25 that that portion of the bible is supposed to be a prayer point for every believing Christian. It reads “because of the signs and wonders that Jesus Did, the people believed in Him. The word ‘because’ at the beginning of the sentence grammatically means that without the precedent being in place, the action word is as good as nonexistent. Jesus was seen to disbelief them on the grounds of knowing the nature of man.
The phrase “because He knows the nature of man” means that man in his human nature believes or trust God if and only if he is convinced by signs. That is, we trust God when He’s good to us and when things seem to be crazy; we become less committed to Him.
At this juncture where I am writing this, I am at a point at which I am dying spiritually and I opened up to my spiritual father who told me right to my face that I should get born-again, as blunt and dishearten as it may sound, he was right. So I decided to study the book of John where Jesus was talking to Nicodemus about being born-again. It was not that I was living obviously in sin, but the feeling of His presence was not in place, so I accepted by spiritual father’s submission and decided to start my study from chapter one of the book of John, but I did not get to the third chapter before I saw myself in the exact picture that lead to my state in the spirit.
Something happened to me not too long from when I am writing this note that made me less committed to God, so to speak. I felt that God hated me and did not love me as much as I thought. I felt that He should have notified me before it occurrence since I was holding onto His word on that particular issue. I then in my childish mentality decided to do things my own way because I Perceived I might never be able to trust Him anymore especially in that area of my life.
Here is my submission: I have concluded that I do not yet know much about God and how He deals with us as human. I still do not submit to God in all situations, I have a thinking that once a way is good then it should be God’s way as long as God is good. Hum!
That is just by the way, john 2:23-25 is a place that I feel we all need to pay a serious attention and address our lives, if need be. Jesus did not trust the Jews because He knows that once the miraculous deed is not in place, then people will not trust him, and this brings to mind why God called father Abraham the most righteous man ever lived. He trusted God to make his descendants as much as the sand of the ground even when his wife could not give birth to the promise child at the expected time (Faith/Trust), even when there was no evidence to back it up, he still believed.

I feel what breaks the heart of God most, is the fact that is His sons and daughters do not trust Him in their hard times but only show loyalty to Him when things are going on well. How about you? When do you study the bible most? When do you pray more? When situations are pleasant or otherwise?
